Home Up     Feeding

[Under Construction]

The most over-looked feature of plant care is feeding.

Generally, houseplants need a liquid fertilizer once a month. The easiest way to tell if your plant is hungry, is by looking at its leaves. Are they dark green or yellow green in color with slightly darker veins?  Fertilizing houseplants is important to make plants grow vigorously and lushly. Fertilizer comes in many forms--liquid, soluble crystals, soluble tablets, slow release and all organic. In order to use the product properly, read the instructions on the container and follow them appropriately.

    Two recommended houseplant fertilizer.

30-10-10 This is used for non-blooming plants.  The 30 is the nitrogen content. Nitrogen is used to make plants grow leaves that are green and healthy. Feed every fourth watering or about once a month.

15-30-15 This is used for blooming plants. The 30 is the phosphorous content. Phosphorous makes the plants flower. Feed every fourth watering or about once a month.
